David Torres
Mechanical Head
David Torres is a senior at ‘Iolani School in Honolulu, Hawai’i. David is a paddler and spends a lot of time in the Ala Wai canal. After experiencing firsthand the filth of the canal, he wanted to do something to clean up the canal. This and his desire to challenge and improve himself brought him to the MOMI Project. David specializes in the mechanical or physical aspect of the project. In order to have oysters, we must have somewhere to store them. He works on the containers that the oysters will eventually be housed in. David’s goal is to create a durable, cheap, and efficient cage by making a new prototype weekly and improving upon the previous version. David hopes that MOMI will be able to restore the Ala Wai to its original cleanliness.
Outside of MOMI, David enjoys spending time with friends, in nature, and exercising. He spends a lot of time paddling and playing video games with friends. David plans on pursuing his education by studying to be a doctor in college. He is thankful for his family and friends for all they have done to support him. David is excited for the challenge ahead and to be able to paddle in a clean Ala Wai.
David will be attending Gonzaga University in the fall.
